PRIMA PARTE, ABSTRACT: In this talk I will prove the existence of an isomorphism between two families of manifolds: hyperpolygon spaces and moduli spaces of stable, rank-2, holomorphically trivial parabolic Higgs bundles over CP^1 with fixed determinant and trace free Higgs field. Using the study of variation of moduli spaces of parabolic Higgs bundles over a curve, I will describe the dependence of hyperpolygon spaces X(a) and their cores on the choice of the parameter a and show that, when a wall is crossed, the hyperpolygon space undergoes an elementary transformation in the sense of Mukai. This is joint work with Leonor Godinho, arXiv:1101.3241.
SECONDA PARTE, ABSTRACT: We consider moduli spaces pf polygons in Minkowski 3-space with a fixed number of sides lying in the future time-like cone and the others in the past (where each side has a fixed Mikowski length) and study their relation with the fixed point set of a natural involution on the space of rank-2 parabolic Higgs bundles over CP^1. This is joint work with I. Biswas, C. Florentino and A. Mandini.

"Serre obstruction for genus 3 curves"
"Let k be a field. A principally polarized abelian variety (A,a) over k, which is a Jacobian over \bar{k} is not necessarily a Jacobian over k. Serre pointed out that there may be an obstruction and asked how it could be computed. For abelian threefolds, we gave two characterizations of this obstruction. The first one in terms of a Siegel modular form which is, over the complex, the product of the 36 even Thetanullwerte; the second one which is purely geometric and related to Recillas trigonal construction. I will review some aspects of these works.
More recently, a new surprising phenomena has appeared in experiments when one let the abelian threefold vary over a given finite field. In order to perform these experiments, one has to deal with the explicit problem of spanning the moduli space of smooth plane quartics. Several attempts to do this efficiently will be proposed."

L'equazione di Calabi-Yau in varietà almost Kähler
Abstract: Lo studio dell'equazione di Calabi-Yau nel contesto almost Kähler è motivato da una recente congettura di Donaldson che afferma che il teorema di Calabi-Yau si possa generalizzare alle 4-varietà simplettiche non Kähleriane aventi b_+=1.In un recente articolo Tosatti e Weinkove hanno dimostrato l'esistenza di una soluzione dell'equazione di Calabi-Yau nella varietà di Kodaira-Thurston per dati iniziali invarianti rispetto all'azione di un Toro. Lo scopo del seminario è quello di illustrare che il teorema di Tosatti -Weinkove si generalizza ad ogni fibrazione di tori su tori. L'argomento centrale della dimostrazione consiste nel ridurre il problema a un'equazione di tipo Monge-Ampere che si verifica avere sempre soluzione unica.

The trifocal variety
Abstract. In Computer Vision the multi-view variety is constructed by considering several cameras in general position in space, all focused on the same point. Given lines in all camera planes, how can I tell if the cameras were all looking at the same point? This question can be answered by finding implicit defining equations for the multi-view variety. We may also be interested in the algebraic problem to find the minimal generators of the defining ideal of the multi-view variety. The case of 3 cameras, the trifocal variety, is already interesting. In this talk I will explain our use of symbolic and numerical computations aided by Representation Theory and Numerical Algebraic Geometry to find the minimal generators of the ideal of the trifocal variety. Our work builds on the work of others (such as Hartley-Zisserman, Alzati-Tortora and Papadopoulo-Faugeras) who have already considered this problem set-theoretically. This is joint work with Chris Aholt (Washington).

Abstract: We study coadjoint orbitopes, i.e. convex hulls of coadjoint orbits of compact Lie groups. We show that up to conjugation the faces are completely determined by the geomety of the faces of the convex hullof Weyl group orbits. We also consider the geometry of the faces and show that they are themselves coadjoint orbitopes. From the complex
geometric point of view the sets of extreme points of a face are realized as compact orbits of parabolic subgroups of the complexified group. This is a joint work with Alessandro Ghigi and Peter Heinzner.
