The Centro di Ricerca Matematica "Ennio De Giorgi" - Pisa annonunces a three months
intensive research program on "Groups in Algebraic Geometry", to be held from September
to November 2008.

AIMS AND RESEARCH DIRECTIONS:
Main topics will be:
1) Algebraic surfaces [intensive activity in the period October 15 - November]
2) Fundamental groups and uniformization problems (also ball and polydisk quotients)
[intensive activity in the period september 5 - september 25]
3) Group actions, automorphisms, and birational automorphism groups [intensive activity
in the period september 25 - october 15]
4) Galois groups, fields of definitions of algebraic varieties, Belyi type conjectures
[special week with one 2 days workshop, probably in the period september september 15-25]
5) Monodromy factorizations and symplectic topology of algebraic surfaces [special week
in the period september 25 - october 15, with one 2 days workshop]

GRANTS:
A limited amount of funds is availabe to support junior participants. In order to apply
they should send their curriculum vitae, a list of publications and at least one
recommendation letter to the address: crm@crm.sns.it
Dead-line for applications is *July 17 2008*.
REGISTRATION:
There are no registration fees to attend this intensive research program. The
registration form is available on the CRM's pages devoted to the program.
Whoever would like to participate in the program have to fill out the registration form
at least one week before his/her arrival.
